Brother Andy, Frown Pow'r and The See

A few weeks back, I got to see a night of great Arkansas punk-rock at Smoke & Barrel, which I blogged about here, complete with a link for a free compilation CD for you to download. To end that night, the fantastic up-and-coming Little Rock band, Magic Hassle, rocked the stage. Playing lead guitar with Magic Hassle that night was the See's, Eric Morris. Let's just say I was wowed by his talent that night, so when I heard the See were coming to Fayetteville this past weekend, I was stoked.

Last Saturday night, Magic Hassle were supposed to come back up to Fayetteville, but had to cancel last minute. No matter because we still got to hear great music from other Little Rock bands, Brother Andy, Frown Pow'r and the See. Click 'em to visit their MySpace page.

Brother Andy, who was just Andy, a mic and his guitar, sat his flannel-shirted gritty self on the edge of the stage and stayed there for his entire set. There's just something pure about a man, a guitar and his voice singin' at ya.

Frown Pow'r was up next. With an upbeat, almost 1950's rock-and-roll sound at times, they brought the crowd in and the house down. Big energy and sound, that Frown Pow'r. Check them out, too. Oh, and congrats to their drummer, whom they announced that night was just accepted to Harvard. Kudos, man!

And then, the See closed us down for the night. It was worth the wait to get to hear them live. They sounded coherent, if that makes sense, with each band member absolutely rocking their instrument of choice. Yet, when they played together, they seemed, well, seamless. Have a listen to their song "Selling Gold" below. The sound quality isn't the best, but have a listen anyway.

This band has big talent and great sound. I predict that you all will hear a lot about and from the See in the future. Be looking for them and go see them live if you have the chance. I know for those of you who don't live in Arkansas, that's sort of a hurdle, so, go check their MySpace, linked above, and buy their CD. Trust me on this one. And, happy Music Monday.
