This is where my mind goes when I look at that can of tomato soup... what made him look at a can of soup that way on that day and think, "I think I'll paint that...?" Was he hungry for a grilled cheese and a warm bowl of tomato soup that day? Where was he when he created Jackie-O in all her facially-spliced glory? Do you think Andy had a crush on her like the rest of America? Will the Chanel bottles be waiting for me this time or in the home of a greedy bagillionaire? So unfair.
Do they serve Americana pie in the cafe upstairs, because if I ran it, I would. I think it's clever. You could have your Van Gogh pie with a chunk cut off the crusty, creamy top. Americana pie would have a tomato-red center with a white meringue topping and it would taste like a Willy Wonka three-course version of creamy tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwich and a crusty baguette. OK, so maybe in a pie, that'd be gross, but if you could make that and serve it in a cafe at the MET, I think people would order it. Not all pie is sweet. Am I right?
I am going to pack my day-pack with my camera, water, journal, different-colored pens, glue stick, tiny sewing scissors and Burt's Bees. I may stay all day. I hope that like in the movie Enchanted, that Jamaican band will be outside on the front steps with a drum-line full of beat.
Well, Andy, just a couple more months until we're together again. Please whisper into the ears of the museum staff that a proper dusting or Windex of glass will be needed the night before I get there. I hope they at least have a bowl of warm soup upstairs I can order for my lunch. Oh, and a cup of hot tea. I might even have pie for lunch that day, too.
