So, I've had this question in my mind for, I'd say, the last year-and-a-half, ever since I belatedly got my iPod. I say belatedly because if you know me personally, you know that I tend to want music most all the time, and it felt like somewhat of an injustice to hear of friends who had gotten iPods for Christmas, birthdays, or whatever, YEARS ago, and only had like 20 songs on them ... even for months and months and I was still faithfully rocking the compact disc.
I remember one Christmas in particular, not many years after the iPod came out, a friend saying she thought she was going to take her recently received iPod back because she never used it and didn't think she ever would. I kind of heard that, nodded my head a little and didn't know whether to be so jealous my eyeballs almost became darts or just plain sad. What I had just heard felt like Chinese to me. TAKE IT BACK?! Only 20-ish songs and it's not because you're too poor to splurge? For the love!
Anyway, so I finally got one and obviously, I LOVE mine. It's the 8GB Nano. She's blue. And, while I love her, I also still haven't been able to give up my cd's either. I have several in my car that I rotate in the 6-disc changer, need be. You see, my iPod plays through an adapter plugged into my lighter and it tunes and plays through radio. So, the quality of sound isn't the best. It sometimes sounds like you're playing an old mixed tape with lots of static in the background. Remember that sound?
Now, on to the new part of Vaught Thoughts where I ask in Frank Black style, "Where is your mind?" I'd love to know your answer to this question: If you could switch iPod's with anyone you know, whose would it be and why? When you answer, share with us your iPod make and model and how 'bout even your favorite song or favorite song as of late. This could be fun ... just sayin'!

I would switch with you...oh wait...
Awesome.
I'd like to rock David Byrne's iPod for a week or so, or maybe Jim James'. But I don't think I could ever give up my baby forever. It's a black 80GB iPod classic that, you guessed it, my Dad got for Christmas one year from my Grandparents and it basically sat there for a whole year before he came to grips with the fact that he can't read the screen and even if he could he only has one eye and should probably keep it on the road.
My most played song of the week is probably "Tempted" by Squeeze, "Over & Done With" by the Proclaimers, or anything on The Police greatest hits CD. Summer is the best time for rocking forgotten 80's B-sides.
LOVE The Police, Jacob. "Tempted," while totally 80's, reminds me of the very 90's "Reality Bites."
80GB? Sick. Hilarious about your Dad's one eye too. I remember that about him ... shot with a BB gun, right? I think as a little kid, I asked him about that.
And, I should have been more clear about the "anyone" part. Who is someone you would switch with that you for really real know? And, why?
What a great question!
I think I'd want to switch iPods with my friend Andrea. She has all kinds of cool indie and folk music that I've never heard of before.
I've got a black 30GB, the first gen of video ones that came out? Got it for Christmas and I will use that thing till it dies!
As of late, I've been loving on Jason Mraz. Wordplay has been a recent favorite.
I would switch with Meredith Porbeck bc I love me some Celine and Shania!! :)
No, really I would switch with my big sis bc she always introduces me to good music...like Band of Horses, Jackopierce, Ben Rector...
Jordan, WHY haven't we hung out yet? Let's make a plan? Also, I have a book for you. It's totally our kind of book too. It's called, "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society." The entire book, set during during WWII and after is about a secret literary society formed to fool the Germans, is centered around writer, Juliet Ashton, and her receiving a letter from a stranger in the G.L.P.P.P.S. You can borrow mine soon. I will not be able to put it down until I finish!
Cassie, hilarious. Meredith, hilarious. "Whooa-O-O." "My heart will go on (followed by ridiculous vibrato)." Oh me.
P.S. I like Band of Horses too.
Funny, I was going to say Jim James too. As well as maybe Aaron & Bryce Dessner of the National (they produced the 'Dark Was the Night' compilation). You know, there aren't many people I'd want to trade my iPod with but I would borrow some playlists from people (including you!). Also there's this girl, Heather, who has a music blog I like (fuelfriendsblog.com) - I'd take her iPod. Heck, I'd take her JOB. I have an 80 GB myself - and have only used just a little over 1/4th of the available space. That reminds me I should go download some stuff right now...
Girl, you know how to ask the good, most IMPORTANT questions! ; )
I would switch with my friend John Borrow from Atlanta. He would have the greatest of the 80's (including the Police) and early 90's, along with great P&W.
I did have the 8G Nano too, Milt, but it was stolen out of my car in December. Now, I'm just rockin' the iPhone.
xoxo
Christy, I've wondered how I could have her job too! I've said this before, but, WHY were we not better friends in college? Dang, sorority/non-sorority girl line in the sand! All those years, I don't think I knew ANY girls at UA with similar taste to mine in music. And, yeah, hard to swap iPods forever. Maybe we'll just say swap for a month. Glad to know you're a reader too, my friend.
Jenn, that's right. I forgot about that break-in. That is just WRONG. Take my stuff ... heck, take my car, just LEAVE the iPod alone. I had a cd case of over 100 cd's stolen five years ago. And they were like the really good old ones. I lament even still over its whereabouts.
I would switch with John Rutter, the composer, because I feel like although it's possible that no one likes as much choral music as I do, John Rutter might come close. And surely he has some great stuff on there that I've never heard. PLUS, I'd like to know what he listens to when he's not listening to choral music. I couldn't possibly pick a favorite song, but I NEVER tire of listening to Coldplay, the Pride and Prejudice Soundtrack, Ray LaMontagne and Stephen Layton and Polyphony...I'm not super exciting.
My iPod is my 2nd, and a gray Nano. I LOVE how skinny it is, and the fact that ALL SEVEN Harry Potter books fit onto it with my music! :)

And I just saw the part about switching with a person I know...oh well...
